Remarkable Lives Stamps for Royal Mail
March 2014
Today marks the launch of Royal Mail's set of Remarkable Lives stamps, which Purpose have been commissioned to design.
The stamps will commemorate the centenary of the birth of ten remarkable Britons who have made a significant contribution to our way of life. Those portrayed in the set are from the fields of broadcasting, sport and graphic design, among others.
Purpose were commissioned to design the stamps as well as the presentation pack, first day cover and filler card, and two ‘cancellation’ stamps. Having sourced original portrait photographs through contact with archives, estates and family members, we experimented with different processes to create a homogenous set with the visual quality of silver bromide photography.
The Britons themselves are presented immersed within the environments and activities which made them such prominent figures, with the stamps telling their own remarkable stories.
